NEW DELHI : Trinamool Congress members in the Lok Sabha today staged a walk out in the Lok Sabha in protest against alleged misuse of the CBI and for ‘targeting the party-led government in West Bengal’. When the House met for the day, Trinamool members were on their feet to raise the issue and entered the Well. Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu tried to make his point but Speaker Sumitra Mahajan advised him to wait till the members take their seats. “The government should make its point only when they take the seats,” Ms Mahajan said.
Saugata Roy of the AITC said the CBI has been misused by the government and the ruling BJP has launched a campaign against the party-led government and its leaders in West Bengal.
He said even the ruling party during the previous UPA regime had levelled the same charges against the premier investigating agency and the then government. He said, “I have also given a notice over the issue in zero hour.”
The Trinamool member demanded that the CBI be taken out of the control of the Prime Minister and be governed by the Lokpal.
He also condemned the arrest of West Bengal minister Madan Mitra in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam by the CBI.
Mr Naidu took serious exception to Mr Roy’s stand and refuted his allegations. “The Trinamool member has made certain comments against my party president and I do strongly condemn the comments.
“Gone are the days when CBI was misused, this was under the previous regime and that regime was supported by Mr Roy’s party too.”
Mr Naidu added, “I would like to advise Mr Roy and his party not to support tainted or guilty people, it would bring bad name for them.”
The Speaker then proceeded for Question Hour, leaving the Trinamool members unhappy and dissatisfied who then walked out in protest.
While leaving the House, AITC member Sultan Ahmad was displaying a poster. The Parliamentary Affairs Minister and the Speaker both took serious exception to it. (AGENCIES)
