Tributes paid to Gyani Jiwan Singh on 50th death anniversary

JAMMU, Jan 22: Rich tributes were paid to Late Sub Major Gyani Jiwan Singh on his 50th death anniversary in a function organized by Akali Dal in association with Freedom Fighters Association and General Bikram Singh Yadgar Committee.
Hundreds of people from all castes took part in the function and paid tributes to Late Sub Major.
While speaking, Ved Gandotra, president, Freedom Fighter Association threw light on the life of Singh, who sacrificed his life for the sake of the nation.
Gajan Singh, president, Akali Dal, said that during tribals attack in 1947, Gyani Jiwan Singh guided the Army for recapturing the occupied areas from invaders.
He said that Singh had raised 8 and 11 Militias to fight with the enemy, which were later converted into Indian Army. Singh also authored many books including Vehran Kotta, Pacham Da Noor, Veer Vachora, etc.
After retirement, Singh opened a medical shop in Jammu and served the public as doctor, Gajan Singh added.
Rangil Singh, ex-Minister and senior vice president, PDP highlighted the achievements of the Gyani Jiwan Singh.
Among others who spoke were Jaswant Singh, Devinder Singh, etc.
