This refers to the writeup’A tribute to motherhood’ (DE, March 20,2016).The writer has beautifully paid rich tributes to motherhood which is a divine and priceless gift.Mothers are the living angels on the earth.According to Eldar M.Russel Ballard’There is no role in life more essential and eternal than that of motherhood’. Mothers are the greatest of blessings of God to mankind.They play myriad roles at home and in the society.It is she who plays the primary role of bearing the children, taking care of them,inculcating moral values in them and thus, enabling them to live an honourable and civilized life in the society.In fact,it is the relationship between a mother and her children which will greatly impact the kind of persons that they will be as they grow.The great leaders such as Gandhiji and Shivaji owe their success in their respective fields to their mothers.Each mother has different challanges,skills and abilities to deal with her different children. She adjusts herself to the needs and moods of other members of the family and derives pleasure to see all of them happy.By nature,she is an embodiment of humility,sacrifice, and patience. Her role,whether as daughter,daughter- in-law, wife,neighbour or Government employee is indefinable and she fulfils her different roles admirably.The writer has not only dwelt on the theme of motherhood but also highlighted the multifarious roles of women in the society.The women in India have excelled as writers,civil servants, politicians, judges and even officers in the Belt Forces.
But it is the role of woman as mother which is the most important of all her roles.Mother’s love for her children is always uppermost and unconditional and she will defend her children against all odds and wipe away her tears silently.Despite such an important role of mother in the birth and development of her children,it is painful that some sons abandon their mothers in their oldage to die unattended and uncared.We must learn to honour motherhood and treat mothers with reverence and respect to turn this earth into a heaven.
