JAMMU, Jan 16: Tribute were paid to late Omkar Nath Shabnam on his 80th birth anniversary by the Kashmiri Writers Group, here today.
On this occasion, his autobiography Myein Kath: Wachi pyatha Vaishali taam and a poetry collection Haraf Katstam Rudim Toti Baqi, published by Triple Zed Publications, Bijbehara, Anantnag, J&K (UT), were also released.
The event was hosted by renowned writer and poet Sunita Raina Pandit, who gracefully steered the event’ proceedings.
Esteemed personalities on the dais included, Dr Roop Krishen Bhat, Dr Gauri Shankar Raina, Deepak Budki and Hamid Siraj.
Dr Roop Krishen Bhat delivered the opening remarks, recounting significant events from Shabnam’s life and highlighted the indelible mark, he left on Kashmiri literature.
Dr Gauri Shankar Raina presented a paper on the autobiography’s structure, giving a brief yet compelling overview of Shabnam’s life journey.
Avtar Krishen Pandita (Hugami), through a video link, also presented a paper on Shabnam’s Poetry collection, delving into its themes and literary significance. Sunita Raina Pandit also shared her perspectives on the depth and philosophical resonance of Shabnam’s poetry.
Deepak Budki (retd KAS and famous Urdu fiction writer), delivered the presidential speech, shedding light on the contributions of Shabnam and appreciated his family for publishing his unpublished work posthumously.
Finally, Susheel Shabnam Bhat, on behalf of the family, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the audience and the Kashmiri Writers Group for their presence and support in making the event a memorable tribute to his father’s legacy.
Among others who were present included Kamal Haak, Ashok Pandit, Manoj Bhan, Sunita Trisal, Roshan Lal Roshan, Pratush Koul and Asha Bhat.
