RAJOURI, Jan 1: Tribute were paid to the seven civilians who were martyred in the Dhangri massacre three years ago, as grief and anger continued to simmer among the victim families over the delay in justice.
On January 1, 2023, terrorists carried out a brutal attack at Dhangri village of Rajouri district, killing seven innocent civilians Even after three years, the families of the victims say their wounds remain unhealed and their quest for justice unanswered.
Among those martyred were two brothers, Deepak and Prince. Their mother, Saroj Bala, while paying tribute to her children and the other victims, said that despite the passage of three years, the perpetrators of the crime are yet to be brought to justice.
Saroj stated that although the government has claimed to have identified certain individuals, those named appear to be facilitators, while the actual terrorists who shot Deepak and prince in front of her eyes-young men, according to her-have still not been apprehended.
Saroj Bala further said she had even met Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking justice, but her repeated appeals have not yielded results.
In a poignant and symbolic gesture, Saroj with the support of local villagers, constructed a memorial herself to honour her martyred children and the other victims. She expressed strong resentment over the absence of any representatives from the administration or political leadership at the tribute event. She said no minister, district administration officials, police officers, local elected representatives, or leaders from the ruling party were present.
Saroj announced that she would go to Delhi and stage a protest at Jantar Mantar within the next 10 days if justice continues to be denied.
