RAMBAN, Apr 3: Transport Commissioner Rajinder Singh Tara, today visited Udhampur and Ramban and took detailed review of services both online / faceless being provided by the Motor Vehicle Department and directed that all the services to be provided to the applicant within specified timelines.
He emphasised that special focus should be made to clear the pendency besides ensuring transparency in issuance of driving licenses and fitness certificates of vehicles strictly as envisaged in Motor Vehicle Act. He said the Department is taking all sincere efforts to provide various services in a hassle free manner at the doorstep of applicants. He instructed the concerned ARTOs to give wide publicity to popularise the various welfare and technology initiatives of the Department i.e. Hit and Run Scheme, Road Accident Victim Fund, Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility, Automated testing Station so that people come forward and avail the benefits of these initiatives which would ultimately contribute to the road safety.
Tara also visited accident spot in district Ramban and took a detailed review of the road upto Banihal to have first hand appraisal report of the circumstances leading to the unfortune accident occurred recently. He directed the Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Ramban to identify and compile a list of all the black spots along the highway and interior routes in the district and submit detailed report so that necessary steps could be taken to rectify them on priority. He further instructed ARTOs to increase the enforcement activities by laying multiple Nakas during the night hours with special focus on drunken driving, overloading etc.
He also stressed on suspension of Driving Licenses, Registration Certificates etc. of repetitive offenders specially drunken drivers and overloading.
The Transport Commissioner also reviewed election related transport arrangements in both the districts and directed the ARTOs to make foolproof preparation in coordination with the concerned District Election Officer. Transport Commissioner J&K was accompanied by Pankaj Bhagotra, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu and other officers / officials of the Motor Vehicle Department.
