SRINAGAR, Aug 2: Chief Information Commissioner of India, Satyanandan Mishra called on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah here this morning and discussed matters relating to the public empowerment through Right to Information Act (RTI).
In about an hour long meeting, the Chief Minister apprised the CIC of India about the implementation of Right to Information Act in the State bringing it at par with the Central Act. He also told him about other initiatives taken by the Government to bring in transparency in the functioning of the administration and good-governance.
The Chief Minister also briefed him about the initiative of e-tendering and e-procurement put in place in R&B, PMGSY, Health, Power and other departments. He told him about the independent 3rd party monitoring introduced for various developmental projects.
The Chief Minister told Satyanandan Mishra about empowerment of general public through enactment and implementation of Public Service Guarantee Act. He said that the Act has not only made essential public service delivery time bound, but reduced the chances of corruption at the lower level.
Later, Chairperson of National Commission of Schedule Tribes, Dr. Rameshwar Oreon also met the Chief Minister.
Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, members and officials from NCST and Secretary Social Welfare and other senior officers from Social Welfare Department were also present in the meeting.
The meeting discussed issues pertaining to the welfare of Schedule Tribes and weaker sections of the society including Gujjar and Bakerwals.
The Chairperson NCST presented resume of the meetings of NCST with various officers and about the tour of the National Commission of Schedule Tribe to different parts. The Commission appreciated the Government headed by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah for its keenness and determination to help ameliorate the lot of weaker sections and Schedule Tribes in the State. The Commission also appreciated the endeavour of the State Government for carrying forward tribal development programmes unabated and without waiting for flow of funds from the Centre.
The Chief Minister said that equitable development of all areas and all sections of the society is the benchmark of his Government. He said Government is reaching out to all areas and all sections of the society in the process of development in equal term.
The Secretary Social Welfare elaborated the schemes under implementation in the State aimed at betterment and holistic development of Schedule Tribes and weaker sections of the society.
