RAJOURI, Feb 25: Five-day NIAM-sponsored training programme on women empowerment in agriculture and entrepreneurship concluded today at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu.
The valedictory session was graced by Dr Anil Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Registrar SKUAST-Jammu, as the chief guest. He emphasized the crucial role of women in agriculture and rural development, highlighting their dual responsibilities in both child-rearing and farm operations. He stressed the importance of value addition, processing and entrepreneurship, encouraging participants to explore micro-enterprise opportunities for economic independence. He also emphasized the significance of niche horticulture crops in the Jammu region and assured that SKUAST-Jammu is committed to supporting women in agriculture.
Dr Sudhakar Dwivedi, Dean Student Welfare and Course Director, provided a detailed overview of the training programme, elaborating on key topics covered during the five days, including fruit cultivation, value addition and processing, marketing and branding, certification and quality management. He appreciated the active participation of women and encouraged them to implement their learnings to enhance their agricultural ventures.
Dr P K Rai, ICAR Nodal Officer, shared his views on externally funded programmes, highlighting various funding opportunities available for agricultural initiatives. The participants also shared their experiences during the training.
The programme was co-directed by Dr Punit Choudhary Head KVK Jammu, Dr Anil Bhat, ADR and Dr Prem Kumar. Senior Scientist. The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma, Head Division of Agricultural Economics and Agri-Business Management.
The training was organized by the Division of Agricultural Economics and Agri-Business Management and sponsored by National Institute of Agricultural Marketing Jaipur.
