JAMMU, Oct 17: The Traffic Police Rural Jammu initiated a special awareness drive along the National Highway and interior roads in Kathua and Samba districts today.
The drive aimed to educate the public, as well as drivers of matadors, auto public service vehicles (PSVs), and truck operators, about traffic rules and regulations to ensure smooth and noise-free traffic movement.
The initiative was led by Sukhdev Singh, DySP Traffic Samba-Kathua, along with Inspector Pawan Singh (DTI Kathua), Inspector Ajaz Pervaiz (DTI Samba), Inspector Kapil Manhas (DTI Bari Brahmana), and SI Kartar Nath, Incharge DTI Billawar, under the guidance of M Suleman Choudhary, IGP Traffic J&K, and Dr Mohd Haseeb Mughal, DIG Jammu Range.
The drive focused on curbing traffic violations such as overloading, over-speeding, rash driving, and the illegal use of pressure horns, especially by trucks, dumpers, tippers, and long-route buses.
Drivers were urged to avoid wrong parking, wear seat belts, use helmets, and follow speed limits to ensure road safety.
SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, Vinay Kumar, emphasized the need for discipline and transparency in traffic management, urging officers to strictly enforce the Motor Vehicle Act.
He said modern gadgets like breath analyzers, noise pollution monitors, and speed radar guns will be used to monitor violators.
Kumar appealed to vehicle owners, transporters, and the general public to cooperate with traffic police in maintaining road discipline.
He particularly advised youth to wear helmets, including for pillion riders, and to avoid triple riding for their safety.
The drive will continue in the coming days, with enforcement expected to become stricter to improve traffic management and reduce accidents, said the SSP Traffic Rural Jammu.
