SAMBA, Feb 20: Traffic police in Samba District imposed Rs 3 lakh in fines over the past week for violations of traffic rules.
A police official said during a week-long special campaign on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, Mansar Road, Samba-Sumb Road, Samba Border Road, and several other locations, the police issued 185 challans.
In addition, he said, 9 vehicles were seized, and fines were levied on 20 vehicles, including buses plying on the Samba-Kathua route, for using pressure horns that caused significant noise pollution.
District Traffic Inspector Rakesh Kumar stated that the campaign would continue in the future.
He highlighted that the focus was primarily on two-wheeler drivers, as many often fail to wear helmets, leading to accidents.
The campaign also targeted vehicles contributing to noise pollution.
Furthermore, the police recovered a stolen motorcycle during the operation. The motorcycle, which did not have a number plate, was seized.
Upon contacting the owner, it was revealed that the motorcycle was stolen, and a case had been filed at a police station in Kathua.
A separate case was registered in the Ghagwal police station, and the motorcycle was returned to its rightful owner.
