Sir,
Kindly refer news “Jammu facing worst ever traffic chaos” (DE Nov 7).As per the reports published there are 7, 50,000 vehicles registered with RTO Jammu and approximately 60,000 vehicles are added every year. We may imagine the gravity of traffic chaos after ten years if the addition in vehicles continues at its present speed. The worst sufferers of this traffic chaos are the people residing between Ambphalla chowk to Ban Talab .Frequent jams are also being experienced from Shakuntla Theatre to Ambphalla chowk and from Jewel Chowk to Talab Tilloo. One of the reasons for traffic jams is that the matador drivers stop matadors wherever they want. They do not bother for the inconvenience caused to other vehicles due to their halting in the middle of the road. The route of matadors plying from Panjtirthi to Gangyal, Trikuta Nagar, Shastri Nagar Gandhinagar, and Railway Station has been changed. Similarly due to installation of barricades at Balwinder Chowk all the matadors coming from Rehari colony, Subhash Nagar, Plaoura are rouited through Mian Dido Chowk Ambphalla which are causing huge Jams at Mian Dido Chowk and Ambphalla Ckowk near Ch. Aishi Ram Batra Petrol Pump.
It is also a fact that the length of the roads in Jammu city has not been increased in spite of annual increase in number of vehicles in the city except construction of a fly over. Last year I had submitted two proposals for construction of alternate roads to the Governor of J&K, JDA Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, JMC Jammu and ERA for construction of two alternative roads to solve the problem of Traffic Jams from General Bus Stand to Ambphalla Chowk and from Ambphalla Chowk to High Court Complex, Janipur It was proposed to construct an alternative road from Maheshpura Chowk to Rehari colony to link the road with road from Balwinder chowk to Rehari Colony near Dr Dara Singh Nursing Home.
This is possible by asking the Army unit stationed opposite to Shakuntla theatre to vacate the land required for the alternate road which is lying vacant. Even this unit of 16 Corps can be relocated near to 16 Corps HQrs and this whole land can be used for construction of road etc. Another proposal was for construction of alternative road from BC Road near S. Kahan Singh Petrol Pump (Behind Ved Mandir enclave- VVIP Bunglows to J&K high Court alongside the Army boundary wall of another army unit as huge stretch of land is lying vacant. Since similar types of roads have been constructed at Jammu Cantt from Presentation Convent School to Nai Basti Jammu,Kunjwani to Kaluchak(Purmandal More), and at Samba where either on one side or on both the sides of the High ways Army Units are located so similar roads can be constructed as suggested above to ease the traffic problem.
But as we know that such proposals are generally accepted by the concerned authorities only when some influential person or political leader having approach in the corridors of powers proposes. But it is believed that the above proposals submitted will have to be implemented sooner or later if the concerned authorities are really interested to solve traffic problem in Jammu in general and Jammu West in particular. It is also enjoined upon all the social workers, and other organizations who are taking keen interest to solve the traffic problem to approach the concerned authorities to consider the above proposals sincerely. Jammu West Assembly Movement leaders are also requested to raise this issue at the appropriate level.
Yours etc…
