*Many landslides yet to be cleared

JAMMU, Nov 23: The famous tourist resorts of Jammu Division – Surinsar and Mansar, having twin most beautiful lakes, are facing total neglect and official apathy as the main road connecting these sites from Sidhra via -Bajalta and Aithamm has not been properly cleared of the land and mud-slides after rainy season during July and August this year.
Such a worst is the condition of this road that neither muck (Mulba) has been cleared from the road by using JCBs, nor the damaged road patches have been repaired since August after Monson season came to an end. Trees have fallen on the road at many places and huge heaps of debris/Mulba are lying on both sides of the road with just single passage for a vehicle in the middle.
The PW(R&B) authorities after the closure of this road during August ending rains, removed mulba for making just single passage. The road surface has broken at many places up to Mansar and at dozens of places road has caved in. Even at Surinsar Station, the road along the Lake has been damaged. The tiles used on the road have gone down the actual road surface. Some of its portion is sinking for the last more than two years but neither the Tourism department or the R&B authorities have taken cognizance of the matter.
Shiv Kumar, a local villager hailing from Sagoon in Surinsar said that he uses this road to reach Jammu for his job on bike. The road is very narrow and huge heaps of landslides/ boulders are lying on the road. For the last about three months, R&B authorities have not cleared this road which connects important tourist destination of the region. The BJPs public representative is also not bothered about the matter. Neither Chief Engineer R&B Jammu nor the concerned Executive Engineer has maintained this important road so far. It has become accident prone and the officials at the helm of affairs are insensitive to the public miseries.
Another villager Suram Singh from Surinsar said that they had brought the matter before the notice of Chief Engineer R&B at Jammu about a month ago and he had assured to deploy JCBs to clear the debris from the road, but nothing has been done so far in this regard.
