Tourism, PHE Ministers, DGP, Div Com call on Governor

JAMMU, Nov 14 : Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Minister for Tourism, Sham Lal Sharma, Minister for PHE, I&FC, DGP and Divisional Commissioner Jammu today called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today.
During the meeting, Tourism Minister briefed the Governor about the various initiatives taken by the Tourism Department in the past year for the promotion of tourism in each of the three regions of the State.
The Governor reiterated his concern about the vital importance of protecting and preserving the natural beauty of the scenic areas through effective enforcement of traffic regulations, maintenance of roads and bridges, collection and disposal of garbage, identification of land fill sites, storm water drainage system etc.
And most important of all concerns would be to ensure against buildings, of whatever kind, coming up along the streams and rivers and, further, the need to strictly implement a master plan of sewerage treatment in every town.
Mr. Mir stated that his department was sensitively aware of these concerns and doing all that is possible to maintain cleanliness and aesthetics of every area.
Governor and PHE Minister discussed various issues relating to the measures being taken for augmenting drinking water supply and irrigation facilities in various parts of the State for effectively meeting the existing and the speedily increasing demands in both these sectors. The status of utilization of the available resources under various Central schemes was also discussed.
Referring to the fast increasing demand for supply of water to cater to the requirements of the Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji Yatra, the Governor stressed the high importance of timely planning and timely executing new water supply schemes to meet the future requirements of fast expanding Katra town and its surrounding areas.
Director General of Police Ashok Prasad briefed the Governor about obtaining security situation in the State. The DGP and the Governor also discussed several important issues, with longer term implications, which relate to internal security management by the State Police.
The Divisional Commissioner briefed the Governor about the overall law and order situation and about the implementation of various important development projects in the Jammu Division.
The Governor suggested to the Divisional Commissioner to take particular interest in ensuring that the obtaining high incidence of fatal road accidents in various parts of the region is speedily brought down and satisfactory traffic management systems enforced.
The Governor also advised Shantmanu to take effective preventive measures to ensure against encroachments along both sides of the new 4-lane National Highway to Srinagar and, side by side, enforcement of similar preventive measures along the entire Mughal Road, right up to Pir-ki-Gali.
