JAMMU, June 23: Expressing concern over the looming threat of urban flooding in Jammu, senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has demanded immediate action to mitigate monsoon related problems particularly in low-lying areas.
Interacting with a deputation here today, Tony said that the Jeevan Nagar Bridge needs to be reconstructed due to its faulty design which poses constant threat.
The Congress leader said that the Deputy CM, who also holds the portfolio of the concerned Ministry, should give urgent directions to UEED to undertake immediate de-silting and cleaning of all major nallahs across Jammu before the onset of the monsoon.
He further pointed out that several low-lying bridges in Jammu are poorly designed and pose a serious threat during rainy season.
Tony urged the Commissioner/Secretary PWD and JMC Commissioner to personally intervene and direct immediate cleaning of the nallahs running through Channi, Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Jeevan Nagar, Gadi Garh and Chatha areas, which are among the worst affected during rainfall.
