JAMMU, Feb 10: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to shift the Government’s focus towards the long-overlooked rural sector, emphasizing the dire need for road infrastructure development in remote areas.
Tony was leading a deputation of over 100 people to Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Chief Engineer PW(R&B) Department.
He highlighted the decades-long delay in the construction of roads from Chatha to Rati Sarari and from village Bermini onwards.
“These key links are in urgent need of repair,” he said.
Tony also raised concerns about the deplorable state of roads in Langer Colony near Kunjwani, stressing that urgent repair work is required to improve connectivity.
He highlighted that while already blacktopped roads in urban areas are being resurfaced, rural residents are still compelled to navigate muddy and broken roads.
Tony further urged the administration to expedite the construction of a double-lane bridge between Jallo Chak to Greater Kailash on Landoi Nallah, which he described as a crucial project for improving connectivity in the region.
He called upon the Government to ensure that rural infrastructure is placed at the forefront of planning and execution, rather than being continuously sidelined in favour of urban-centric projects.
Tony also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Engineer, demanding immediate intervention.
