JAMMU, May 2: Senior Congress leader and DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today led a delegation of 29 displaced families from the Rani Bagh area, whose houses were demolished during the Jammu Airport expansion drive in November 2019, to Deputy Commissioner Jammu and sought early implementation of the rehabilitation plan promised by the authorities.
Tony highlighted that it has been nearly six years since the families were evicted from their homes, which they had been residing in since 1947. They included Col Parveen Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Piara Singh, Rattan Singh, Kala Singh, Gurbachan Singh, Mohan Singh, Nirmal Singh, Babu Ram, Parkasho Devi, Swaran Singh, Dattar Kour, Milkhi Ram, Sudhershan Kumar, Tara Chand Jatt, Chain Singh, Jeet Lal, Madan Lal, Kulwant Singh, Dewan Singh, Khazan Singh, Jasbir Singh, Satpal Singh, Ram Singh, Jasbir Singh, Satnam Kour, Dharam Paul, Harmeet Kour and Sain Dass.
“Despite repeated assurances by the administration neither adequate compensation nor alternative plots have been provided to the affected families,” he said and informed that land for their rehabilitation has already been identified at Belicharana and transferred to the Revenue Department for allotment. However, the physical distribution of plots to the affected families remains pending.
“These families are facing extreme hardships, with many forced to pay rent for years without any stable source of income. Several among them are elderly and have no means to support their families,” Tony stated, demanding that the Government fulfill its commitment without further delay.
DC Jammu Sachin Kumar Vaishya gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that the matter would be resolved at the earliest. He marked the application to SDM South with instructions to address the issue on priority.
Following this, the delegation led by Tony also met SDM South Manu Hans, who assured them that necessary steps would be taken promptly to expedite the physical allotment of plots.
