JAMMU, Oct 8: DDC Suchetgarh and senior Congress leader Taranjit Singh Tony today led a delegation to PWD SE Ashwani Sharma and took up the issue of badly damaged road near Old Railway Phatak in Ward Number 54, which had deteriorated further due to recent floods in Jammu.
During the meeting, Tony apprised the SE of the poor condition of the stretch. Responding immediately, the SE directed XEN and AEE of the department to visit the site, assess the damage, and carry out urgent patchwork and repair work without delay.
The officials assured that repair work would commence immediately, restoring the vital link that connects several residential and commercial areas in the locality.
Speaking on the occasion, Tony said that the floods had caused significant damage to many internal roads in Jammu, and it was the duty of the administration to ensure timely restoration to prevent accidents and traffic inconvenience. He emphasized that public safety and smooth connectivity remain top priorities.
He also requested the PWD department to take up the roads leading to Barmini, Chatta, Panj Peer and Bathindi on priority, as these too are in poor condition and require urgent maintenance. Tony reiterated his commitment to ensuring that no area is left neglected, particularly those affected by recent natural calamities.
Tony further appealed to the authorities to adopt a comprehensive approach to road maintenance, including proper drainage systems to prevent water logging and damage during monsoon and floods.
Prominent residents and members accompanied Tony included Banarasi Lal, K S Manhaas (vice chairman), Rakesh Menia, Somnath, Tara Chand, C D Gupta, Devi Dass, Bishan Dass, Dr Ajeet Kumar, Daya Ram, Capt Tarsem and Darshan Lal Thapa, among others.
Tony assured the people that he would continue to monitor the repair work and follow up with the concerned officials until the project is fully completed.
