JAMMU, Aug 6: The Congress party intensified its demand for restoration of democracy and full Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir during a public meeting held under its ongoing campaign ‘Chaurahe Pe Charcha’ under Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq programme, here today.
The event was organised by Govind Ram Salgotra Booty, Panch of Ambica Colony and dynamic youth and Kissan leader Mandeep Chaudhary, Mohinder, Jeet Choudhary who mobilised locals and party workers for the dialogue-based outreach programme.
The meeting was addressed by senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, who sharply criticised the Central Government for denying democratic rights to the people of J&K.
Speaking on the occasion, Tony said, “Power should be with the elected Government who have won elections, not selected persons of the Modi Government. Otherwise, it will be a broad daylight murder of democracy.”
The Congress leader stated that the lack of Statehood led to complete stagnation of governance and a growing list of unattended issues.
Tony said, “Only a Government with legislative and administrative powers can address the pressing issues faced by the public, such as long-pending demands of daily wagers and Anganwadi workers, many of whom are working without proper wages or job security; Unemployment crisis, with thousands of youth struggling without job opportunities or support; Developmental delays, especially in semi-urban and rural areas, where infrastructure and basic services remain poor; Farmers’ issues, including poor crop prices, lack of compensation and neglect of agricultural reforms and Transporters’ woes, with no concrete policy or financial package in sight despite severe post-pandemic losses.”
“These are not just demands; these are cries for justice and these can only be addressed by a people-elected, accountable Government, not by bureaucrats sitting in air-conditioned offices with no connection to ground reality,” he added.
Prominent Congress leaders, who were present during the meeting included Rakesh Kundal, Pawan Kumar and Captain Chaudhary.
