JAMMU, July 2: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, conducted an extensive tour of Sunjwan, Chatha and Rati Sarari areas to inspect ongoing road infrastructure works and address long-pending public demands. He was accompanied by XEN Bhupinder Kumar, AEE and JE of the concerned department.
During the inspection, Tony highlighted the incomplete status of the Sunjwan to Chatha road, where although a 5 km stretch had been sanctioned, nearly 500 meters of work remains unfinished. Taking prompt action, XEN Bhupinder Kumar issued on-spot directions to the contractor to expedite the completion of the remaining portion. He further informed that a new tender for a PMGSY road from Higher Secondary School Chatha to Bermini, covering 6.5 km, will be floated within the next 15 days.
Locals also raised the demand to include the Chatha to Rati road under the PMGSY scheme. Acknowledging this, the Executive Engineer directed the concerned AE and JE to prepare and submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) at the earliest to accelerate the approval process.
Tony also expressed serious concern over the deteriorating road conditions due to pre-monsoon rains, emphasizing the urgent need for repairs. “With the monsoon yet to begin, damaged and potholed roads are a major hazard. The PWD must act swiftly to prevent accidents and inconvenience,” Tony said, urging the Chief Secretary of J&K to intervene immediately.
Prominent locals who joined the visit included Sahil, Narinder Sharma, Gagan, Raju, Ram, Bittu Sharma, Qadir, Wasim Choudhary and Parvez.
