JAMMU, June 25: Aimed to resolve the pressing power-related issues affecting the farming community, senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today called on Ashok Kumar, Superintendent Engineer (SE) of the Power Development Department (PDD) and submitted a charter of demands.
During the meeting, Tony highlighted the acute distress faced by farmers due to defunct pumpsets in several areas.
“With the paddy season underway, the non-availability of irrigation water, especially at the tail-end of the canal network, is severely impacting agricultural productivity,” he said and urged the SE to immediately restore all non-functional pumpsets to ensure timely irrigation support to the farmers.
Tony also raised concerns about multiple power transformers that were damaged during the recent hailstorm and demanded that these transformers be replaced on a priority basis to prevent prolonged outages and further hardship for rural households.
He appealed for the installation of new electric poles in low-lying and vulnerable areas to strengthen the power infrastructure and minimize future disruptions.
Tony also made a fervent appeal to the CM Omar Abdullah to intervene and issue immediate directions to the concerned departments to expedite the redressal of these long-pending issues.
“Any further delay would deepen the crisis for the already struggling farmers. Farmers are the backbone of our economy and they deserve timely support from the administration, especially in critical times like these,” he asserted.
