JAMMU, June 19: To highlight the acute water shortage being faced in several localities of Jammu including Sanjay Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Qasim Nagar, Sunjwan, Bathindi, Malik Market, Chatha, Trikuta Nagar and Channi, Taranjit Singh Tony, senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, today called on Chief Engineer PHE, Vikas Sharma.
During the meeting, Tony expressed serious concern over the erratic and insufficient supply of drinking water in these areas, especially during the peak summer season.
He urged the department to ensure a proper timetable for regular drinking water supply and emphasized that the Government must strictly adhere to its commitment of providing free tanker services in areas suffering from scarcity.
Tony clarified that tanker charges are applicable only when used for personal or commercial purposes, and not for essential public supply.
He also demanded that Kiryani Talab motor should be regularized on priority to improve water flow to the affected areas.
“The Government is also actively identifying suitable locations for the installation of new tube wells to provide long-term relief,” he added.
The Chief Engineer gave a patient hearing to the deputation and assured that immediate directions will be issued to address the issues raised.
Among others who were the part of delegation included Raj Kumar Raju, Capt Ghar Singh, Gagan Panch, Happy Randhawa, Darshana Kumari, Narinder Sharma Happy, Paramjit Kour, Harvinder Kour, Gopal Dass, Sahil Shigotra and Ram.
