Timber smuggling bid foiled

SRINAGAR, Mar 27: Police today seized 12 timber logs and two horses used for transportation after foiling an illegal timber smuggling attempt in district Pulwama.
Officials said the recovery was made during a naka laid at Gabalpora following specific inputs about the movement of illegally felled timber from Shopian towards Pulwama.
A group of persons transporting timber on horses was intercepted during the operation, police said.
As per police, while some suspects managed to flee taking advantage of the terrain, two persons were apprehended on the spot.
They were identified as Javaid Ahmad Wagay of Nardpora, Shopian, and Mehraj Ahmad of Drach, Rajpora.
Police said the seized timber and animals have been taken into custody, and a case under FIR No. 42/2026 has been registered at Police Station Rajpora.
Further investigation is underway to identify and nab the remaining accused, police said.
