RAMBAN, Feb 4: Three double-storey residential buildings were destroyed in two separate fire incidents in the Rajgarh and Khari tehsils of Ramban district today. While no loss of life was reported, several families were rendered homeless, and property worth lakhs of rupees was gutted.
In the first incident, a devastating fire broke out in the far-flung village of Thatha in Rajgarh tehsil late this afternoon. Police sources confirmed that the fire started in a two-storey house belonging to Javeed Iqbal Ganai in Ward Number 4 of Thatha, a bordering area of Kastigarh, Doda. Due to strong winds, the flames spread rapidly and engulfed another double-storey house owned by Mohammad Ameen Ganai.
Ex-sarpanch of Thatha panchayat, Gulam Nabi Bhat, stated that the high-speed wind exacerbated the spread of the fire, leading to the complete destruction of both houses. He also noted that due to the lack of road connectivity in the village, fire tenders could not be summoned. Despite the efforts of local residents who rushed to the scene to douse the flames, the houses were reduced to ashes. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, according to officials from the Police Post, Kastigarh, Doda.
In another fire incident in the Manjoos area of Khari tehsil, a double-storey house belonging to Abdul Qayoom Naik caught fire. Police sources reported that emergency services, including fire and rescue personnel, along with local volunteers, were engaged in efforts to control the blaze.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of both fire incidents. The affected families have been left homeless and are in urgent need of assistance.
