JAMMU, Dec 9: Police in RS Pura area here have arrested three alleged drug peddlers and recovered 170 grams of heroin along with two sharp-edged weapons from their possession during an operation carried out as part of the ongoing drive against narcotics.
During routine patrolling near Daljeet Chowk, a suspicious vehicle was intercepted, a police official said, adding that on seeing the police, its occupants attempted to flee on seeing the police.
During the search, he said, small quantities of heroin were recovered from each of the three individuals travelling in the vehicle.
Police later conducted a detailed search of the vehicle, which led to the recovery of a larger consignment of heroin and two sharp-edged weapons, the police official said.
He said the total seizure amounted to 170 grams of heroin, marking a significant success in the fight against drug trafficking in the area.
Following the recovery, a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station RS Pura and all the three suspects, identified as Pritam Singh alias Sethi of Ramgarh, Narayan Sharma alias Shunna of Vijaypur and Jaspreet Kour of Vijaypur, were taken into custody.
Meanwhile, officials added that further investigation is underway to identify the supply routes, financial links and other associates connected with the consignment.
