UDHAMPUR, Nov 6: A three-day training programme on “Social Defence Issues for Police Functionaries” began today at the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) Udhampur, in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
A statement said that a total of 40 officers and officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Police are participating in the training aimed at improving the quality of services provided to vulnerable sections of society.
The programme focuses on building awareness about social issues, familiarizing participants with relevant legal provisions, and encouraging innovative approaches to social defence, it said.
The inaugural function was held at the academy, where Rajinder Kumar Gupta, SSP and Deputy Director (Indoor Trainings), SKPA, was the Chief Guest.
He spoke on key social defence concerns such as transgender welfare, beggary, substance abuse, and elderly care, stressing the vital role of police personnel in ensuring justice, safety, and inclusivity.
Pertinently, the training is being coordinated by Inspector Abdul Momin with assistance from ASI Baldev Singh, both from SKPA Udhampur.
