JAMMU, Nov 14: The Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES) Jammu & Kashmir, in collaboration with the Enterprise Survey Division (EnSD) of the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Kolkata, conducted a three-day Special Training Programme on Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) – Data Handling from November 12 to 14 at the DES office in Jammu.
A statement said the programme was inaugurated by Director General, Economics & Statistics, J&K, Satvir Kour Sudan, who highlighted the importance of reliable ASI data for calculating the industrial sector’s contribution to the State Gross Domestic Product and for supporting evidence-based policy decisions.
Senior officers from EnSD, MoSPI – Dr A K Panigrahi, Ankita Mondal, and Rajarshri Bhowmick – served as resource persons for the training.
Dr Panigrahi briefed participants on the relevance of ASI data in shaping economic policy and long-term industrial planning.
Technical sessions were conducted by Mondal and Bhowmick, who provided live demonstrations and hands-on training on ASI data handling using presentations and ASI schedules.
The programme aimed to build the technical capacity of officers of the Planning, Development & Monitoring Department and to improve accuracy and consistency in ASI-related statistical work.
Regional Director (E&S) Jammu, Ashu Gupta, encouraged officers to actively participate and make the sessions interactive.
The event saw participation from Joint Directors, District Statistics & Evaluation Officers from several districts, and officers from DES, Chief Inspector of Factories, Field Operations Division (NSSO) Jammu, Labour & Employment Department, and Industries & Commerce Jammu, reflecting a strong cross-departmental approach to strengthening statistical systems in the Union Territory.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Joint Director (Surveys) Shobha Rani, who appreciated the contribution of the resource persons and participants.
She said the training would help improve ASI data handling and support future statistical surveys essential for informed economic planning in Jammu & Kashmir.
