Three day ABVP conf deliberates on demographic strength, infiltration

JAMMU, Dec 6: The 71st national conference of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) concluded in Dehradun after three days of deliberations on education, demographic strength, social transformation and rising concern over Bangladeshi infiltration.
In a press conference ABVP State Secretary, Sannak Shrivats informed that the conference witnessed participation of 1211 delegates from all States including Tamil Nadu, J&K, Gujarat and the north-eastern region.
“The delegates discussed organisational development, educational policies and a range of social and cultural issues, taking several significant decisions,” he maintained adding: “The delegates approved four major resolutions after incorporating suggestions received from across the country and these included the requirement to bring all educational institutions under a structured framework with adequate financial allocation, concern over Bangladeshi infiltration which poses challenges to national security and the democratic order, the role of society in addressing natural disaster caused by human activities and the need for an organised community response to counter divisive forces.”
Shrivats also said that Rani Abbakka exhibition, organised during the conference showcased Uttarakhand’s glorious heritage and folk traditions.
He said that the delegates were briefed about organisation’s nationwide programmes, agitations and its membership strength which has now crossed 76 lakh.
“ABVP has announced a nationwide hostel survey campaign in the coming days under which all the categories of student hostels will be assessed,” Shrivats continued.
He further said that to commemorate the 500th birth anniversary of Rani Abbakka, exhibitions and programmes will be organised across various campuses. “Special events will also be held to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda while on the birth centenary year of Prof. Yashwant Rao Kelkar, ABVP will conduct workers’ orientation sessions and commemorative activities,” the ABVP leader said informing that Rani Abbakka, considered India’s first woman freedom fighter was born in 1525 in Karnataka.
