Sir,
Electricity was almost a failure in the peak summer this year too. It may be reminded that some years ago, the Government came out with the allegation that there is loss of electricity due to misuse of electricity by its consumers. Electronic metering was done in most of the areas of the city of Jammu promising the consumers that electricity supply would be improved. But despite e-metering there was no respite in the summers. The shutdowns were as usual. Why this scheme failed and how much mount was incurred on this exercise?
Now, for last two years, we have been watching and listening about a new exercise. New transmission lines are being laid with the new meters. Some areas have been already covered. This year’s summer passed with this hope but it added to the miseries. Power shut downs were done in the garb of this plan. Let’s see how successful will be this plan or will it be another failure like e-metering.
However, it is the time for the Electricity Department to complete this plan during the coming winter session so that next summer the consumers would not suffer, if it is a success. Otherwise, if it is just another scheme of incurring the huge expenditure without any results, then God save us.
Yours etc…
Manohar Lal,
Jammu
