Thief held, stolen jewellery recovered

JAMMU, Nov 11: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Bathindi area today claimed they have arrested a thief and recovered 34 grams of the stolen gold jewellery from his possession.
A police official said on July 14, this year, one Farooq Ahmed son of Shuker Din of Malik Market, Bathindi, lodged a written complaint with Police Station Bahu Fort, stating therein that an unidentified thief trespassed into his residence and decamped with gold ornaments.
On this, he said, a case FIR number 222/2025 under sections 331(2)/305 BNS was registered and investigation was set into motion.
During the course of investigation, police developed leads and successfully apprehended the accused person, identified as Deepak Kumar of Bhagat Mandi at present Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, he said.
During sustained questioning, the accused confessed his involvement in the crime and on his disclosure, the stolen gold weighing around 34 grams (3.4 tola) was recovered from his possession, the police official further said.
According to him, further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain his involvement in other similar theft incidents.
