JAMMU, Nov 21: A thief escaped from the custody of Police Station Channi Himmat here, officials said today.
The accused, identified as Deepak Kumar alias Deepu Dana of Kalka Colony, Bawe-currently residing in Bagar Mandi, Trikuta Nagar-had been arrested recently by Police Post Chinnore in a theft case reported from Durga Nagar locality.
Officials said he was also being investigated for another theft case registered at Channi Himmat.
After his custody was shifted from Police Post Chinnore to Police Post Bathindi falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Channi Himmat, he was being questioned at the Police Station, from where he fled after pretending to feel unwell and giving a slip to the staff.
A manhunt has been launched to trace the accused, who remained absconding till last reports came in.
