SRINAGAR, Sept 17: Transport Minister Satish Sharma today said that there can never be two power centers in Jammu and Kashmir and expressed hope that promises made by the Central Government would soon be fulfilled.
Sharma made the remarks after inaugurating the Transport Bhawan in Srinagar, a project that had been pending for more than a decade. “It will take time to fix things that have been there for 10-11 years. But I will say one thing: there can never be two power centres. I hope that the promises that were made to us by New Delhi will be fulfilled. Although we are very late, I hope these things will be fulfilled soon,” he said.
The minister also launched plastic-based Registration Certificates (PVC RCs) in Srinagar for the first time, assuring that the service will be available to all vehicle owners from October 1. He said the paperless cards will address issues of damage and loss during floods and accidents. “It will be easy for people, and they will have all the data on it,” Sharma added.
He acknowledged shortcomings in the Transport department and said reforms will take time. He said that the region has faced wars, floods, and natural disasters. “Our focus should be on how to rescue people, how to provide relief, and how to start the rehabilitation process,” he said.
Sharma also highlighted the significance of bringing multiple transport services under one roof at the new Bhawan, saying it would reduce difficulties for the public.
On other governance issues, Sharma noted concerns raised about the smart PDS system, particularly for families unable to get ration cards after splitting households. He said these demands had been conveyed to Central minister and that assurance was made to address soon.
