JAMMU, July 14: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cracked a temple theft case within 24 hours in the Jhajjar Kotli area by arresting the accused and recovering the stolen gold and silver items from his possession.
A police official said the action came after Ravi Kumar, a priest of Kali Mata Mandir in Siranjli Village, lodged a formal complaint at Jhajjar Kotli Police Station on Monday morning, informing that a golden nose ring (gold nath) adorning the deity and five silver coins were stolen from the temple premises, creating panic among the locals.
Taking immediate action, he said, police registered a case FIR number 86/2025, invoking section 305 of the BNS and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which tracked down the accused within hours of the crime being reported.
During investigation, the accused confessed to committing the theft from the temple and revealed the location where he had hidden the stolen items, the police official said.
Acting swiftly, he said, the police recovered all the stolen property, which included one golden nose ring and five silver coins, and brought them back to the temple authorities.
Meanwhile, further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused was involved in any other similar incident in the area.
