JAMMU, Nov 6: Late Kavi Ratan, a renowned theatre director and cultural activist of Jammu, was posthumously honoured with the prestigious Ramesh Mehta Memorial Award in a function held here today.
The function was organised by the Hindi Sahitya Mandal (HSM), in association with the family of Late Ramesh Mehta.
The event was held to commemorate the upcoming birth anniversary of Late Ramesh Mehta on November 13.
The presidium comprised Suresh Dhingra (Delhi), Dr Lalit Magotra, president, Dogri Sanstha and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, former additional Secretary, JKAACL.
Shashi Ratan was the special guest, while Dr Chanchal Dogra, president, HSM, Brij Mohini from the Mehta family and Prof Pritam Chand Shashtri shared the dais.
The award, carrying a cash prize of Rs 11,000, a shawl and a citation, was conferred upon Late Kavi Ratan for his significant contribution to theatre direction.
During the function, Dr Chanchal Dogra welcomed the gathering and highlighted the Mandal’s activities.
Manto Dutta Sharma introduced Late Ramesh Mehta, while Sham Bihari Juneja and Deepak Kumar presented papers on the lives and contributions of Late Kavi Ratan and Late Ramesh Mehta, respectively.
Madhvi Sharma read the citation for Kavi Ratan.
In his presidential address, Suresh Dhingra lauded the efforts of Hindi Sahitya Mandal and the Mehta family for promoting cultural values and recognizing stalwarts like Kavi Ratan.
The jury comprised Dr Lalit Magotra, Prof Kiran Bakshi and Dr Chanchal Dogra.
The programme was conducted by Madhvi Sharma, coordinated by Rakesh Abrol and concluded with a vote of thanks by Pavitra Mehta.
