Thathri observe shutdown, people block highway over alleged murder of woman

DODA, Apr 30: Amid complete shutdown, massive protest was held at Thathri town today over the alleged murder of a woman.
Hundreds of local residents blocked Batote-Kishtwar highway to protest against the death of young woman, who was charred to death in mysterious fire yesterday.
Alleging foul play by the in-laws of the deceased, the protesters demanded Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be set-up immediately to investigate the matter and arrest the culprits.
23-year-old Shaista Begum, who was married to Abdul Hamid around two years back, was charred to death under suspicious circumstances at her house on Friday afternoon.
Thathri police have registered a case under Section 302 and 109 RPC in this regard and questioning of deceased’s husband and her father-in-law is going on.
Due to protest for couple of hours, hundreds of vehicles got stranded on both sides of the highway.
Top district officials had a tough time to pacify the protesters, mostly women, but and finally they pacified the demonstrators.
“We have already registered a case. A SIT has been constituted for speedy disposal of the case,” said ASP Bhaderwah Sargun Shukla.
