RAMBAN, Dec 13: Jammu and Kashmir Police today organised “Thana Diwas” at the Batote area of Ramban district to hear public grievances at the police station level and to strengthen community policing.
The programme was chaired by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range, Shridhar Patil, along with Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban Arun Gupta and Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramban Varunjeet Singh Charak.
DySP Headquarters Ramban Waqar Younus Bhatt, DSP Operations Manisha, and officers from the civil and police administration were also present.
During the interaction, local residents, public representatives and heads of social organisations raised various issues related to policing and civil administration.
Addressing the gathering, DIG Shridhar Patil said that Thana Diwas aims to take policing to the doorstep of the people and make community policing a reality.
He reiterated the commitment of the police to the rule of law, stating that no criminal would be spared and no innocent person would be harassed.
The DIG said the police and district administration are working in close coordination to curb drug abuse and other criminal activities.
He also informed the public that a Cyber Police Station has been established in Ramban district to deal with cybercrime and assist victims.
Highlighting women-centric initiatives, DIG Patil spoke about the ‘Bharosa’ campaign and said that women facing domestic violence are receiving support through the toll-free helpline number 1930.
SSP Ramban Arun Gupta stressed the need for active public participation in combating drug abuse and cybercrime.
He urged people to use helpline number 1933 to report drug-related activities, 1930 for cybercrime complaints, and emergency number 112 for urgent assistance, assuring prompt and confidential action.
He, along with the ADC Ramban, patiently heard the grievances raised and assured timely redressal of genuine issues.
DIG Patil also assured the people of Batote that more public welfare measures, especially focused on youth empowerment, would be introduced in the coming days.
