AGARTALA, Nov 28: The Tripura Forest Development and Plantation Corporation (TFDPC), one of the profit-making Public Sector Undertakings of the state, has begun value addition of rubber wood.
With the growing demand for rubber wood doors and windows across the world, TFDPC’s Rubber Wood Factory & Timber Treatment Plant has now started manufacturing designed doors in the brand of most archaeologically important site – Pilak.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Minister for Industries and Forest Jitendra Choudhury inaugurated the Pilak Door Factory at Agartala’s southern outskirt Nagicherra yesterday.
The factory with the capital investment of Rs seven crore, including a grant of Rs five crore from the Union Commerce Ministry, has a multi-machinery set up for manufacturing state of art designed doors, windows and kitchen shutters and skin doors.
“It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore-based IPIRTI for transfer of technology for making bamboo dhari skin for doors,” said TFDPC Managing Director Alinda Rastogi, adding they were in the process of obtaining stewardship certification for forest management and chain of custody to export the produces to European Union.
Besides domestic and national market, TFDPC had targeted international market for rubber wood products, which earlier had no significance but with the value addition initiative by scientific and technological intervention it had opened up a new opportunity of business, Mr Rastogi added. (UNI)
