JAMMU, Feb 16: Demanding continuation of their services, a number of temporary teachers held a strong protest demonstration near the Press Club Jammu, here today.
Shouting slogans in support of their demand, the protesting temporary teachers also tried to take out a march towards the Civil Secretariat but the heavy posse of police, deployed there, foiled their attempt.
The protesters also threatened   to initiate a hunger strike in front of the Governor House if their demand is not considered by the Government. The protest was organized under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Temporary Teachers Association-2014 Jammu, led by Balwinder Singh.
A number of temporary teachers from different areas, assembled near the Press Club and held a demonstration. They were carrying placards and  banners in support of their demand.
While addressing the protesting teachers, the Association leaders sought to justify the  demand for continuation of their service and claimed that different political parties have assured support on the same.  “As the vacations in winter zone are ending on February 24 and the Government formation is taking time, we urge the Governor to order continuation of our service till the new establishment takes over,” they said.
The peaceful protest demonstration continued for around an hour. However, as soon as the protesters tried to take out a march towards the City, Police swung into action and foiled their attempt. In the push and throw battle between cops and protesters, a few temporary teachers sustained minor bruises.
Later, the protesters dispersed off with an announcement to organize a similar demonstration very soon if their demand is not considered.
