Teenager gang-raped, one held; people protest

KISHTWAR, June 9: A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by two youth in Drabshalla area of the district. However, people protested over the incident and blocked the Kishtwar highway for couple of hours demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
As per police sources, 13-year-old girl, a resident of Drabshalla was allegedly raped by two youth of the same area.
The girl narrated the incident to her family members, who reported the matter to police station Kishtwar.
After registering a case under relevant Sections at police station Kishtwar, police launched manhunt and arrested one of the accused, who has been identified as Sudershan, son of Kartar Singh, a resident of Drabshalla.
Police teams are conducting raids at various locations to arrest another accused, who has been identified as Nitin, son of Saroop Chand of Drabshalla.
The girl was restored to family members after conducting medical examination.
Meanwhile, local people along with the family members of the victim blocked the Kishtwar highway for couple of hours near Drabshalla leading to long traffic snarls.
The protestors were demanded immediate arrest of the second accused vis-à-vis strict punishment to both the accused.
On getting information, police team headed by SSP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal rushed to the spot and assured the protestors that the second accused will also be arrested at the earliest.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
However, the second accused was at large when last reports compiled.
