Srinagar, July 3: A teenage boy today died after he drowned while taking a bath in a nearby nallah in the Tadd area of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The boy identified as Toufeeq Ahmad Gorsi (15) son of Mohammad Rafeeq Gorsi, resident of Prada area of Karnah had gone to the Nallah Kajinaag for taking a bath with a group.
As soon as he took a dip in the water body, he went untraceable, forcing those accompanying him to raise an alarm.
Locals said that soon after the incident, the local police were informed and a search operation was launched to retrieve the body. The body was retrieved hours later from the Pingla Haridal power canal, the officials said.
Police said that the body has been handed over to the family for the conduct of last rites after performing the necessary medico-legal formalities.
