JAMMU, May 12: In view of the tense situation along the India-Pakistan border, Team Jammu has appealed to the National Testing Agency (NTA) to postpone the upcoming Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) and ensure that students from Jammu are allotted exam centres within or near their home districts.
Speaking to reporters, Team Jammu Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal expressed concern over the stress students are experiencing, especially those living near the border.
He said the present circumstances are affecting the mental well-being of students and called for a short postponement of the exam to ensure their safety.
Jamwal also objected to the allotment of exam centres outside Jammu and Kashmir, saying it places an unnecessary burden on students and their families.
“Expecting students to travel to Punjab or other states is unfair, especially when there are safety concerns and financial hardships involved. This is particularly troubling for girl students,” he said.
He added that many students have to travel repeatedly due to the multiple phases of CUET-UG, often with little time to prepare for travel.
He urged the NTA to learn from previous years, when exam centres were relocated within the Union Territory and the test was postponed due to similar concerns.
Team Jammu has requested that the NTA adopt a student-friendly approach by rescheduling the exam and allocating centres locally.
The group stressed that the safety and mental peace of students should be the top priority.
