RAJOURI, Aug 1: In a significant development, the Rajouri Police has registered a case against four persons, including a Government teacher, Mohd Ashraf of Khawas, for spreading misinformation and attempting to malign the image of police through a fabricated photograph.
The issue came to light when a fake image alleging custodial assault at Police Post Khawas under Budhal Police Station was circulated widely on social media platforms a few days ago.
Taking serious note of the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar, ordered an enquiry into the matter. The enquiry was entrusted to Superintendent of Police (Operations) Budhal, Wajahat Hussain.
The enquiry revealed that the viral photograph was false and deliberately shared to spread misinformation. Based on the findings of the investigation, a case under relevant sections of law was registered today at Police Station Budhal vide FIR No. 78/2025 against four individuals involved in the act.
Among the accused, Mohd Arif, son of Mohd Bashir and a resident of Gundi, Tehsil Khawas, District Rajouri, has been identified as the main conspirator. He is the individual whose photograph was circulated as evidence of alleged police brutality. His son, Sarfaraz Ahmed, also played a role in the matter and has been named as a co-accused. Additionally, Shakil Ahmed, the brother-in-law of the main accused, and Mohd Ashraf, a Government teacher by profession, both residents of Gundi, have also been booked in the case for their involvement.
