JAMMU, Dec 27: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed that they have seized a Tata Mobile involved in illegal smuggling of Khair wood from Amb area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Gharota here.
On the intervening night of December 26 and 27, a Tata Mobile (JK02AU-7431) was intercepted at Amb area, but the driver of the vehicle instead accelerated the speed and managed to flee, leaving his vehicle abandoned at a distance, a police official said.
On checking, he said, around 30 to 40 quintals of illegally felled Khair wood loaded in the vehicle was recovered, which was being transported for commercial purposes.
Accordingly, the vehicle, along with the seized timber, was taken into custody, a report was entered at Police Station Gharota, and the confiscated vehicle and material were later handed over to the Forest Department for further action under the relevant provisions of the Forest Act, added the police official.
