JAMMU, July 25: As the Safai Karamcharis and cooks in hostel messes also joined the agitating Class-IV employees from Monday, the Task Force constituted by the University to look into the demands of the striking employees, today reviewed the situation that has arisen in JU as a result of the ongoing strike since June 23.
The Task Force, headed by Registrar, Prof Keshav Sharma, noted that despite the academic session having commenced, the JUNGEU had decided to shut the Messes of the Hostels and suspend the safai work at the Campus.
“It was painful to know that despite the JUNGEU being fully aware about the prevailing situation in the State and the University in consultation with the JUNGEU having already vigorously been following the demands raised by them with the concerned official channels, the strike was still on and thereby affecting the functioning of the University which was detrimental to the interests of one and all and especially the students,” the Registrar said.
The Task Force, in its review meet, clarified the status of all seven demands of NGEU and stated that while the orders of regularization of the concerned helpers in the Bhaderwah Campus and the three Malis at the Main Campus have already been issued besides considering promotion of 17 percent Class IV quota of Graduate employees as Junior Assistants, the issue of creation of positions of Safai Karamcharis and Malis; funding of the Human Genetics Centre; Removal of the pay scale of Rs 2750-4400/- (pre-revised) and the payment of allowances to the Helpers / Assistants had already been forwarded to the concerned official quarters for consideration after the due vetting of these items by the president of JUNGEU.
Meanwhile, continuing their daily token strike for 33rd day, the Class-IV employees suspended their work for three hours and held a protest demonstration on Monday amidst raising of slogans in support of their demands.
