SRINAGAR, Feb 7: The CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, today demanded a thorough investigation into the recent killings of a truck driver in north Kashmir’s Sopore and a former army man in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the family of the ex-army man in Behbagh village, Tarigami expressed deep anguish over the violence. “What can I say? A father has been killed, leaving behind four innocent daughters. Their mother is hospitalized. This is painful and shameful,” he said.
He urged political parties to set aside differences and focus on ending bloodshed in Kashmir. “We have not been able to resolve our issues, and violence continues to claim innocent lives. The law must be followed, and investigations should identify the culprits so that justice is served,” he added.
Tarigami also warned against arbitrary arrests and intimidation, saying such measures would only deepen the crisis. “If law enforcers themselves violate the law, how can we expect justice? Security forces must be held accountable for any violations,” he said.
Referring to the recent killing of a civilian in Baramulla, he reiterated his call for an impartial probe and accountability. “Peace cannot be achieved by inflicting unnecessary suffering on common people. The ongoing distress must be addressed through dialogue, not violence,” he said.
Tarigami urged all stakeholders, including the government and security agencies, to work toward a peaceful resolution. “If we truly want peace, we must address the tears of the people, not ignore them,” he said.
