“Use of bullets and restrictions has never resolved any issue, and history is testament to such measures only making matters more complex,” he said.
He stressed that the imposition of restrictions and arrests in Ladakh are not only unfortunate but also “shameful and condemnable.”
Tarigami said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have not been allowed to be part of India’s democratic system.
“We have been set aside from the aspiration of being part of a democracy. Instead, we were placed under the orders of Delhi – and that too after breaking us apart,” he said.
He added that what happened in Jammu and Kashmir, and is now happening in Ladakh, is part of a chain of events that began on August 5, 2019.
“Whatever is happening in Ladakh, the source is the Reorganization Act. What has happened and is happening in J&K is due to this Act,” he said.
“August 5, 2019, was an assault on the bond of J&K and Ladakh with the Union of India. In the name of reorganization, it was a disruption of relations,” he remarked.
Tarigami said the country’s real strength lies in unity in diversity, not in its army or any other force. “Together, people have decided to work, and that is what we call a republic,” he said.
He criticized the J&K Reorganization Act, 2019, for being imposed without consulting the people.
