Take every step to control UP violence: Vakil appeals PM

BARAMULLA, Sept 10: Expressing shock over the killing of innocent people during communal violence at Muzaffar Nagar in UP, former Minister and Member AICC, Abdul Gani Vakil, today appealed the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi to keep a close vigil on the situation that has arisen in the backdrop of the Muzaffar Nagar violence and take every step to control the situation.
He said people are pinning hopes only on Congress party, which has a history of clean and clear credentials in respect of maintaining secular fabric of the country since its inception. Vakil appealed the people to demoralize communal forces and denounce their agenda of spreading hatred.
The former Minister also condemned recent Shopian killings. He  said nobody has right to kill innocent people and demanded a time bound judicial probe into the incident and sought severe punishment for those involved in this heinous crime.
Vakil was addressing Youth Congress’s rally at Mundaji Pazalpora Rafiabad District Baramulla.
Appreciating the Coalition Government for holding Panchayat elections in the State, the AICC member said that these elections are meaningless unless Panchs and Sarpanchs are empowered fully. He urged the State Government to fulfill its commitments as the Assembly elections are now in sight and very short time span is available for the purpose. He also urged the Government to hold elections of Block Development Councils and Urban Local Bodies in pursuance of fulfilling its commitments made in common minimum programme as Congress cannot afford any inordinate delay in this behalf.
Describing youth as future of the nation, Vakil lauded the role of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in motivating the youth to come forward and play a proactive role in serving society. Senior Congress leaders, Ghulam Nabi Shah, Haji Mohammad Afzal Khan and Pandit Brij Nath Nehru also addressed.
