JAMMU, Sept 1: Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and DDC Member, Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony raised serious concern over the problems being faced by the farmers due to the defunct tubewell and lift irrigation system in the border belt of Suchetgarh.
The senior AAP leader took up this issue with the Chief Engineer Irrigation and apprised him of the issues being faced by the farmers of the border belt. Panchs and Sarpanchs of border villages also accompanied the AAP leader.
Tony said that there is dire need to rectify the damaged power transformers of tubewell and lift irrigation system machines at Talarah Panchayat to resolve the water crisis in the area thus providing great relief to the farmers who have already suffered a lot. He said that the lift irrigation and tube well are to be made fully functional in absence of canal water so as to ensure regular supply of regular water as the paddy is in its final stage.
Later, the senior AAP leader took the Chief Engineer of Irrigation and Flood Control Department to the spot wherein the canal had been broken. Executive Engineer, AEE, JE of Irrigation Department and the civil contractor also accompanied the Chief Engineer during his visit to the border village.
The DDC member asked the Chief Engineer to restore the canal water within 20 days by repairing the damaged portion of canal on priority bases and then simultaneously the tender should also be issued for construction of the broken canal. He asked the Chief Engineer to ensure highest quality of construction work as the canal is the lifeline of poor farmers.
The Chief Engineer directed the Executive Engineers of Lift Irrigation and Tubewell to take a full-fledged round of the area and make Lift and tubewell irrigation fully functional without any further delay.
Tony hoped that the Chief Engineer will take cognizance of this very significant issue of the food producers of border belt Suchetgarh. He warned that if the canal water would not be restored at the earliest then the government should be ready to face wrath of farmers in the shape of large-scale agitation if their paddy is destroyed due to shortage of irrigation water.
