Srinagar, Nov 10: The authorities in Anantnag have sought an explanation from Kashmiri Pandit employees after they were found unauthorizedly absent from their duties, directing them to resume their duties while stating that their absence has hampered works across the offices in the district. However, the order was later withdrawn.
The move has come from the Social Welfare Department in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district which has sought an explanation from at least 26 such employees working in the district as well subordinate offices across the district and have been reported as absent for the last sometime now.
The explanation that has been issued stated that these employees have been found unauthorizedly absent from their legitimate duties while as the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) tried to contact them telephonically and by other means, “but you did not bother to resume your duties and failed to join back your duties.”
It is to be noted here that the employees in focus are absent from their duties after the incidents of targeted civilian killings took place in Kashmir and soon after that several Kashmiri Pandits fled to Jammu for safety. The incidents also prompted the administration to increase the security cover near the areas housing Kashmiri Pandits and the members from other minority communities.
The employees who have been found absent are posted at DSWO Anantnag, TSWO Anantnag, MFI Bon Dialgam, Camp Office Kokernag, TSWO Bijbehara, TSWO Dooru, TSWI Shangus and TSWO Pahalgam.
The officials in the district while confirming the move said that these employees have not availed any leave in this regard due to which it was reported by the district as well as the subordinate offices that the functioning of their offices has got affected which prompted them to issue the explanatory note to these employees seeking immediate compliance.
“Now, we have asked them to submit the leaves with regard to their absence, so that we could put in place the necessary arrangement so that the work at the offices does not suffer any more; all these employees will be submitting their leaves which will then pave a way for us to carry out the required arrangements at the district as well the subordinate offices,” District Social Welfare Officer, Anantnag told Excelsior.
In this regard, he said that the unauthorized absence of these employees has hampered the office work both at district as well as the subordinate offices. “…poor beneficiaries and common people are badly suffering because of your unauthorized absence.”
The authorities have directed the employees found absent to resume their duties within 2 days while warning of action as per the rules in case they fail to comply with the directives that have been issued in this regard.
In the meantime, the District Administration said that the explanation order issued by the District Social Welfare Officer has been withdrawn. “The notice under reference below referring to the explanation issued has been issued unauthorisedly and stands withdrawn by department,” the District Information & Public Relations Centre Anantnag said in a Tweet.
