Next week, we will be celebrating first anniversary of PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission. Jammu Municipal Corporation has also announced to celebrate Swachhata week.
How can we achieve the goal of Swachhata until and unless we solve the problem of civic amenities of migrant labourers. They live in jhugies set up on vacant plots in developing colonies especially in and around old city like Roop Nagar, Dream city, Muthi, Talab Tillo etc.
People at the helm of affairs in Municipality know that these labourers do not have any washrooms near their jhugies as such they defecate in the open, in the vacant plots or on the banks of nullahs, Ranbir canal and other such places. Their children can be seen easing themselves in drains just in front of our gates. We have to find out solutions to stop this, otherwise, this mission of Swachh Bharat is bound to fail.
No matter how much funds flow from Centre for this purpose, the money spent will go to drain. There are many other areas to look at but first let us go for this very problem.
