Suspect held with pistol

SRINAGAR. Aug 27: Security forces today arrested a suspect along with arms and ammunition at Hari Parigam village in South Kashmir’s Awantipora area.
An official said that a joint team of Police, Army, and CRPF laid a naka in the Hari Parigam area and apprehended a person who was behaving suspiciously during checking.

During the search, a pistol with magazine and 9 rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Sakib Reyaz Ganie, son of Reyaz Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Chaki-i-Cholan, Shopian.
He said Sakib is also a prime suspect in the grenade attack on the CRPF camp in Lariyar. He had been missing since May 11, 2025.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case in this regard and investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, security forces today recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition, and other incriminating material from Rajwar forest area of Kupwara district.
A statement issued by the police said here that in a significant success against anti-national elements, Handwara Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG) has recovered arms and ammunition from Bhuvan Forests of Rajwar in Handwara area of Kupwara district.
“During a search operation in the forest area, the team unearthed 22 UBGL grenades, one UBGL, 15 AK-47 rounds, half kilogramme of black powdered substance (suspected explosive), 5 pencil cells, one gas cylinder, one stove and other material.
“The recovery of arms, ammunition, and other logistical items is a major blow to the nefarious designs of terrorists and their supporters. The timely recovery has averted possible terror activities in the area.”
